Swim with Miss Meg's Swim Lessons!

About Our Group Lessons

At Miss Meg’s Swim Lessons, we believe in nurturing confidence, skill, and safety in every swimmer. Our goal is simple: to help kids love the water and respect it. Lessons are built around progress — whether it’s the first unassisted float or mastering rhythmic breathing, every achievement matters.

We use a “Try It, Practice It, Do It” method that gives swimmers space to explore, improve, and shine. Lessons include structured instruction, skill-based play, and safety practice — all in a warm, welcoming environment where swimmers feel supported.

About Swim With Miss Meg

Lesson Format

Each group class follows a consistent flow:

  • Warm-up and connection with the instructor
  • Skill focus with instruction and supported practice
  • Supervised independent practice and safety checks
  • Cool-down kicking and wrap-up with high fives!

Classes are grouped by age and ability, with swimmers placed based on their developmental readiness and swimming independence.

Preschool Lessons

Preschool Group (Ages 3–5)

Independent young swimmers build the skills they need to float, submerge, glide, return to the surface, and explore basic movement. Lessons are active, skill-focused, and supportive, helping kids build confidence at their own pace.

School Age Groups (5-17)

Our School Age Group program is divided into three main class types — Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced — with two levels in each. This structure allows the instructor to meet each swimmer where they are while keeping the group experience cohesive and goal-oriented.

In every class, swimmers may be working on similar skills — like floating, breathing, or stroke technique — but the expectations and support are adjusted based on each swimmer’s level. This ensures:

  • Every swimmer is challenged at the right pace
  • The instructor can tailor feedback and instruction to individual needs
  • Swimmers feel motivated by visible progress within their group

It’s completely normal for swimmers in the same class to be working at different levels — our approach is focused on building skills confidently, step by step.

Beginner Classes

For swimmers building water comfort, breath control, and early safety skills. Includes Levels 1 & 2.

Level 1: Introduction to Water & Safety

  • Entering and exiting the pool with help or independently
  • Comfort with splashing, face-in, and supported submersion
  • Supported front and back floats
  • Blowing bubbles and underwater exploration
  • Wall kicks and supported movement
  • Building trust in the water and with the instructor

Level 2: Foundational Independence

  • Independent front and back floats
  • Push-offs and glides from the wall
  • Swimming 3–5 feet to wall or steps
  • Breath control and underwater return
  • Basic kicks with more body control
  • Climbing out of the pool independently

Intermediate Classes

For swimmers who are confident underwater and ready to develop strokes, skills, and stamina. Includes Levels 3 & 4.

Level 3: Stroke Development & Treading

  • Front crawl and backstroke across short distances
  • Intro to rotary breathing
  • Treading water for 10+ seconds (3–5 ft depth)
  • Breaststroke kick drills
  • Kickboard drills for alignment and endurance
  • Underwater glides and safety transitions

Level 4: Stroke Refinement & Endurance

  • Full width/length swims with breathing and form
  • Breaststroke arms and timing drills
  • Backstroke with correct posture
  • Freestyle with side breathing every 3 strokes
  • 20–30 seconds of calm, controlled treading
  • Light conditioning and pace-building

Advanced Classes

For swimmers who can swim full lengths and want to refine strokes and master advanced skills. Includes Levels 5 & 6.

Level 5: Skill Mastery & Distance

  • Freestyle and backstroke with rotary breathing
  • Breaststroke with pull-kick-glide sequence
  • Butterfly drills (dolphin kick, single-arm fly)
  • Multiple pool lengths with pacing
  • Extended treading and endurance sets
  • Streamline push-offs (no diving at this pool)

Level 6: Performance & Challenge

  • Stroke refinement across all four strokes
  • Distance swimming and timed pacing sets
  • Lap-based challenges for stamina
  • Advanced treading and rescue skill
  • Stroke transitions and confident deep-end swimming

Mixed Level Mastery (Levels 3–6)

For swimmers ready to push their technique and consistency.
To enroll, swimmers must:

  • Be able to stand in the shallow end
  • Be able to jump into the deep end and return to the wall

This class is a great fit for swimmers who are ready to refine the skills taught throughout Levels 3 to 6. It’s especially helpful for swimmers with a blend of strengths — like strong swimmers who need to improve form, or those with great technique who are still building endurance.

In this mixed-level format, swimmers work side by side on the core stroke and safety skills that we revisit and strengthen across all upper levels. Examples include:

  • Freestyle with side breathing
  • Backstroke with steady body position
  • Breaststroke kick and timing
  • Dolphin kick and butterfly drills
  • Endurance sets and treading
  • Safe underwater push-offs and transitions

While each swimmer may be at a different point in their progression, the class allows the instructor to provide individualized guidance while still moving through shared drills and challenges.

It’s also a great option for families looking for more flexible scheduling or for swimmers who benefit from a slightly faster-paced or more technique-driven group.

The instructor will guide each swimmer based on their comfort and ability, offering personalized feedback within a relaxed group setting.

  • Becoming more comfortable in deep water
  • Learning basic freestyle, breaststroke, and backstroke
  • Improving breathing techniques
  • Increasing endurance for lap swimming
  • Gaining water safety and self-rescue skills
